Your Music Deserves to Be Heard in order to improve your playing : Introducing the Music Circle Monthly Performance

Dear Music Circle Family,

There is a moment every musician knows well — the moment a piece finally comes together. Your fingers find the right notes, the rhythm clicks into place, and for a few minutes, everything feels absolutely right. That moment is worth celebrating. Also there are moments when you feel everything is happening right but when you show it to others they point out the mistakes. It is very important to introspect in order to improve. The best possible way is to record yourself and take a moment to review your own performance, it will expose minute details to your flaws. This is a proven method to improve and progress faster.

That is the heart behind the Music Circle Monthly Performance — a brand-new, ongoing initiative designed entirely around you: your progress, your confidence, and your growth as a musician.

Read on to find out what this programme is, how to take part, and the exciting rewards waiting for students who show up consistently.

What Is the Music Circle Monthly Performance?

The Music Circle Monthly Performance is a student performance initiative where every active student is invited to record and submit one video performance per month — and have it published on our dedicated Monthly Performance page on the website for everyone to see. It's a great platform not only to get notice but also to find your future band mate or practice buddy to grow your musical association.

It is simple, open to every instrument, and completely pressure-free. There is no competition involved. There are no judges. There is only music — yours — shared with a community of fellow learners who understand exactly what it takes to sit down and practise day after day. Here we draw inspiration from each other than compete.

One video. Once a month. Any piece you love.

From your current lesson or a favourite from months ago — it all counts.

Whether you play guitar, keyboard, drums, vocals, or harmonica — this stage is yours.

Why We Created This — Entirely for You

As your teachers, we see something you may sometimes miss about yourself: the real progress you are making. We hear it every class. We see it in the way your posture changes, in the way your timing tightens, in the moments you stop second-guessing your fingers.

But we also know how easy it is for students to feel stuck — to forget how far they have come because they are focused only on what lies ahead. The Monthly Performance is our way of holding up a mirror and saying: Look at what you can do.

Here is what this initiative will do for you:

  • Build real performance confidence — recording yourself is one of the best practice tools a musician can use.
  • Create a personal archive of your musical journey — imagine watching your very first submission alongside one from twelve months later.
  • Inspire your fellow students — your performance may be exactly the encouragement another student needs to keep going.
  • Give you a healthy goal each month — a gentle, joyful reason to polish that piece and push it a little further.
  • Help your teacher give you richer, more personalised feedback — seeing you perform outside of a live lesson reveals things even weekly classes cannot always capture.

How to Submit Your Monthly Performance Video

Participating could not be simpler. Here is how it works:

  1. Choose a piece you feel good about. It can be from your current lesson or any piece you have learned at Music Circle — old or new.
  2. Record a clean HD video of yourself playing or singing. A smartphone camera works perfectly. Good lighting and a quiet room make a big difference. Selecting a serene background will make it feel nice.
  3. Upload your video to Google Drive and share the link with your teacher directly — your teacher will guide you on the correct folder and sharing settings.
  4. Your teacher will review the submission and, once confirmed, your performance will be published on our dedicated Music Circle Monthly Performance page on the website.
  5. Watch for your video to go live — and enjoy the feeling of sharing your music with the world!

Quick Tips for a Great Video

Film horizontally (landscape mode) for the best viewing experience.

Make sure your instrument and hands are clearly visible in the frame.

A brief introduction — your name, your instrument, and the piece you are playing — is a lovely touch.

The Quarterly Recognition Programme: Consistency and Growth Has Its Rewards

We believe that the students who show up consistently — month after month, through busy weeks and challenging lessons — deserve a little extra from us. That is why we have built a Quarterly Recognition Programme into this initiative.

At the end of every three months, our teaching team will review all submissions from that quarter. We will identify students who have demonstrated consistent participation and musical growth across their submissions.

What Does the Quarterly Recognition Include?

Recognised students will receive an exclusive invitation to a special group session or webinar — conducted by one or more Music Circle faculty — at absolutely no extra cost to them. These are not generic sessions. They are designed specifically around the themes and opportunities we observe in the strongest performers of that quarter.

  • Deep-dive masterclasses on technique, expression, or music theory
  • Interactive performance workshops where you play and receive live feedback
  • Songwriting, improvisation, or repertoire sessions for advanced students
  • A special Q&A session — ask anything about your musical journey

This is our gift to the students who give their best — not as a prize, but as a promise.

Every student who participates regularly makes themselves eligible. There is no audition. There is no comparison. There is only your commitment to your own music.

What Are We Looking For?

Our teaching team will look at the following across all quarterly submissions:

  • Consistency — did the student submit each month during the quarter?
  • Growth — is there a noticeable improvement in technique, confidence, or musicality across submissions?
  • Engagement — does the student choose pieces thoughtfully and present them with care?

No student will be penalised for their current level. A beginner who submits diligently and shows real month-on-month growth is just as likely to be recognised as an advanced student.

Every Instrument, Every Level, Every Journey

The Music Circle Monthly Performance is open to every single Music Circle student, regardless of instrument or experience level. Whether you are in your second month of learning the ukulele or your fifth year of classical guitar — you belong on this stage.

  • Guitar students (acoustic and electric) — share riffs, chord progressions, full songs, or fingerstyle arrangements.
  • Keyboard students — from scales and simple melodies to full compositions, every performance counts.
  • Drummers — record a groove, a fill pattern, a full backing track, or even a solo — the kit is your canvas.
  • Vocal students — sing a song you love, a piece from your lesson book, or even an original composition.

The Monthly Performance page will be a beautiful, multi-instrumental showcase of everything that makes Music Circle special: the range of music we love, the diversity of students we teach, and the warmth of our community.

A Note on Nerves — Because They Are Normal

Many of you may feel a little nervous about recording and sharing a performance. That feeling is real, and it is completely understandable. Even professional musicians feel it before stepping in front of a camera.

But here is what we know from years of teaching: the students who push past that nervousness are the ones who grow the fastest. Recording yourself teaches you to hear your own playing with new ears. It shows you exactly what needs a little more work, and it also shows you — sometimes for the first time — just how good you actually sound.

You do not need to be perfect. You need to be present. Submit the video that reflects where you are right now — because where you are right now is already worth celebrating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Question Our Answer
Do I have to submit every single month? You are not required to — participation is always voluntary. However, regular monthly submissions are what make you eligible for the Quarterly Recognition Programme, and they also give your teacher the richest picture of your growth.
What if my performance is not perfect? Good news — perfect is not the goal. Honest, heartfelt, and your best effort at this moment in your journey is everything we are looking for. Every submission is valued regardless of level.
Can I submit a piece I learned a long time ago? Absolutely. You can submit any piece you have learned at Music Circle — whether it is from your current lesson or something you fell in love with two years ago.
What equipment do I need to record? Just your smartphone. A modern smartphone camera in landscape mode, a quiet room with decent light, and you are ready. You do not need a studio or professional gear.
Where will I find my video once published?  These videos will be published at our monthly performance blogs. The links will be shared with the students every month.
How do I actually submit my video? Record your HD video, upload it to Google Drive, and share the link directly with your teacher. Your teacher will confirm receipt and let you know when it goes live on the page.
What exactly happens at the Quarterly Recognition sessions? These are exclusive group sessions or live webinars to be conducted by one or more Music Circle faculty — designed around the themes observed in that quarter's strongest submissions. They may include masterclasses, live feedback workshops, Q&A sessions, or specialist topic deep-dives. All at no extra charge.
I am a beginner. Is this really for me? This is especially for you. Beginners who document their journey from the very start have the most remarkable archives to look back on — and the most inspiring stories to share. Do not wait until you feel "ready". Start now.

Now You are Ready to Rock

Your next step is simple: choose a piece, pick up your instrument, and press record. Then share the link with your teacher, and let your music reach the world.

If you have any questions about how to get started, what piece to choose, or how to set up your recording, your teacher is always there to help.

Good Luck!

We cannot wait to see what you have been practising. Your music is ready to be heard.
